Our Fremont orthopaedicsurgeons and sports medicine specialists offer:
-
Achilles Tendon Repair – The Achilles tendon assists with almost all movement of the foot.
This tendon is a band of tissue connecting the calf muscle to the heel.
This tendon can be torn either completely or partially, whether because
of an injury or—the more common cause—repeated stress / overuse.
In most cases, surgery is required to remedy a ruptured Achilles tendon.
-
Achilles Tendon Rupture Treatment – If your Achilles tendon is stretched beyond its capacity, the
tendon can rupture. Symptoms include severe pain that dramatically inhibit
walking, or even prevent walking altogether. Factors that can contribute
to a ruptured Achilles tendon include insufficient stretching / flexibility,
flat feet, overuse, improperly fitting shoes, tight calf muscles, weak
calf muscles, or starting an exercise regime too quickly. Treatment may
include surgery to reattach the tendon. Only in mild cases or for patients
who are sedentary will your doctor recommend non-surgical treatment such
as a cast / walking boot and rest. Proper stretching can be useful in
prevention of an Achilles tendon injury.
-
Jones Fracture Treatment – A Jones fracture is an injury to a specific bone in the foot:
the fifth metatarsal bone. In many cases, Jones fractures are caused by
inversion foot injuries such as ankle sprains, or due to strain / overuse.
In most cases, your doctor will most likely recommend rest and immobilization
in order to avoid further damage, leading to chronic pain and / or the
need for surgery. Immobilization will most likely involve a cast and /
or crutches.
-
Plantar Fasciitis Treatment – Plantar fasciitis is a common condition that affects
the foot. This condition involves inflammation of the plantar fascia,
which is a thick strap of tissue on the bottom of the foot that joins
the toes to the heel bone. Symptoms of plantar fasciitis include stabbing
pain in the heel area, especially early in the day. Your doctor may recommend
conservative treatments such as physical therapy and / or shoe inserts.
Some cases may require steroid injections or surgical treatment.
